Linkage Symposium
On April 20th, 2009, approximately two dozen people, including state and federal water quality policy makers, scientists, and a few individuals knowledgeable about the Jordan River met to discuss the problem of low Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the river. Several scientists and analysts were asked to make short presentations in their field of expertise in order to engage the group in focused discussions with the objective of a better understanding of the DO problem.
The objective of the Linkage Symposium was to:
- Achieve consensus among key individuals in scientific and regulatory roles in the factors resulting in low DO in the lower Jordan River, their interrelationships, and their relative importance.
- Identify where consensus is not currently possible and where additional data might help achieve that consensus.
The scientists who presented and the topics they focused on included:
- Algae and Other Organisms: Presentation from Work Element 2
- Dr. Sam Rushforth, Utah Valley University, Dean of the College of Science and Health
- Presentation by Dr. Rushforth
- Organics Decomposition in Water Column: Presentation from Work Element 2
