Utah Water Quality Monitoring: Monitoring Data
Water Quality Database
Utah's Division of Water Quality Monitoring Section is currently developing and implementing a new water quality database. The database will be under development until Fall of 2012. In the interim, data may be requested from the Monitoring Section directly or visit the EPA's national water quality database.
During database development it is recommended that data be downloaded from EPA's Water Quality Database before a direct request for data is made. Given current database development priorities, direct requests for data will take up to, or at least, 45 days to process.
Direct Request
You must know the following three things to perform a data request:
- The time period you are interested in. Our data files go back to 1974, but data is limited in those "early" years).
- The monitoring stations you are interested in. There are over 6,575 stations in our database. Only about 500 of them are "data rich". Generally, the data rich sites can be found by reviewing the 2007-2008 Annual Monitoring Plan. We suggest that a pick from those lists will probably better fulfill your needs. However, you can select any of our sites during the query.
- The specific characteristics or parameters you are interested in obtaining. We analyze for a variety of constituents, most of them are listed in the Strategic Monitoring Plan.
If you need more help planning your data request, have questions about the data, or are ready to make a data request, please contact Kate Tipple (801-536-4367).
